Corpus Christi may spread out for miles in every direction, a network of roads and waterways creating a wealth of diverse districts and neighborhoods…but if you want to find the central character of our beloved city, head to the humming, urban center.

Perhaps it’s this core sense of vibrancy that lends itself so well to the Millennial demographic. Both statistically and stereotypically, downtowns are heavily associated with young people…hence the overflow of hip restaurants, trendy bars, and third-wave coffee shops. But we’re here to make the case that Corpus Christi’s downtown neighborhood is the perfect place for pretty much anyone to call “home.” Below are 5 compelling reasons why you might want to find your place in the center of this unique Texas city.

Up-And-Coming Arts District

It comes as no surprise to us that the center of the city is also the center of the arts district. Enriched with a wealth of history and culture, downtown Corpus Christi is steeped in stories, from architecture to murals to historical plaques. And though this artistic vibe has been present for ages, the city’s recent revitalization efforts have manifested in the up-and-coming “Marina Arts District.” Encouraging residents to, “Make Art, Buy Art, Be Art and See Art,” the District boasts over 50 public art works and murals, 25 galleries and studios, 20 cultural and art events, and historic walking tours. Even if you aren’t the “artsy type,” living in the midst of this thriving downtown cultural scene is sure to foster a sense of community engagement and inspiration.

Walkablity (and Bike-ability!)
In a city largely dependent on automated transportation, downtown Corpus Christi offers its residents chance to experience the resurgence of the urban pedestrian. Many downtown neighborhoods offer high levels of walkability, a factor that is expected to drive an increase in real estate value over the next decade years. Residents of downtown need only step outside their front doors and take the short, leisurely stroll to the local coffee shop, market, boutique, or seaside views. Or, if you’d rather “go green” in a different way, take a spin on two wheels. Downtown Corpus Christi’s bike share program offers an easy, accessible, and affordable way to rent and ride with Zagster bikes.

The Low Cost of Living
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: it quite literally pays to live in Corpus Christi. Besides lower than average rent and real estate costs, residents also enjoy a lower than average cost of living, which includes everything from groceries to gas. According to Sperling’s Best Places, Corpus Christi’s cost of living is scored at “84.5” (with a score of 100 being the nationwide average). Overall, if you’re going to live in a downtown area, Corpus Christi is far more affordable than neighboring metroplexes.

A Sense of Community

As an “up and coming” area and an active Texas tourist destination, downtown Corpus Christi is usually abuzz with activity. However, despite its penchant for fun, this neighborhood tends to feel more welcoming than overwhelming. A “small town in the center of the big city,” downtown Corpus is the beachfront haven you can enjoy with your neighbors.

The Heartbeat of Corpus Culture
Naturally, one of the biggest draws of downtown Corpus Christi is its wide array of unique cultural attractions! Life in the downtown area offers its residents the authenticity and originality of “Ground Zero” Corpus: the local cuisine, original art, live music, and one-a-kind festivals that make this city what it is. Head to the Farmers Market, explore pet-friendly parks, and settle down in a historic building converted to an urban loft.

Downtown, Bayfront, Marina Arts District…Corpus Christi’s urban center goes by many names. But the one we like best is simply “home”.
